For the digital download versions you can install the game on 5 different PCs at one time, and can always REVOKE a license from any of those machines at any time to allow more new installations on a total of 5. Whenever the game deletes your saves just restore that file and youll beable to start from the last checkpoint. If you have the retail disc version you will just need to take the disc with you and you can play on an unlimited number of machines. Copy it, keep it for safe keeping, you also might want to make a shortcut to that folder since it can be a pain to access. Its unclear if its a mistake or what, but so far theres been no 'fix' yet. At least not without a workaround (you basically have to screw around with your systems clock) You see, the DRM attached to the game had an end-date on it.
In the Content folder keep clicking the folders with random numbers and letters, in the last folder there will be a file called 4D530842.gpd, that is your saved game. Yup, you cant play Gears of War on the PC anymore. However, after the devastating and massive invasion by the Locust and the overrunning of Gorasnaya, the navy suffered losses and was forced to evacuate 5000 civilians. Before the Locust attack, it can be assumed that, as a member of the UIR, the Gorasni navy was a very strong and capable navy.
Vista users can simply type "xlive" in the search bar and it should take you straight to the folder, I guess indexing is good for something. The Gorasni Navy was the naval backbone of the military of the Republic of Gorasnaya.
Those are hidden and protected folders, you must paste "\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\XLive\Content\" AFTER the address to your user folder and hit enter to get to that location. *go to your user folder*\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\XLive\Content\ That and not having to pay a monthly fee to play online while still getting bombarded by advertising make it a better experience for me overall even with the drm BS.Found the save file while trying to find out where the hell the Windows Live crap is, now I just need someone with all or most of the game completed to upload theirs to help everyone out. But, as for the girlfriend thing: Download it, and point out very simply to her that Gears of War is most certain not.
The flexibility and ability to mod put's it above console games for me. Now, rumour says that if you can put it on a friends computer, download it, then copy certain files over to your computer, install steam, and then put the files in their proper folders, you can get around the download issue. I'm still a proponent of pc gaming though.
In the end I had to download a crack just to play a game I paid for just so I wouldn't have to deal with the bullshit. but not without having to scan my jewel case insert to prove I bought the game. i am really curious to know weather it is. After about a week of e-mails to valve they finally tell me that someone else has tried to use the key, so I have to fucking call valve because some fucking douche with a keygen randomly used my cd-key and I have to get a new one. there i played this amazing game which is still not leaving my mind. Six months later I decide that I want to play the game again on a fresh install, and I get a message that my cd-key is no longer valid. I have to have a superfluous advertisement infested resident program online just to play a single player game I paid for? Three hour install while the system unencrypts the data? Yeah, just great.
